FDM Printers (Ender, Bambu, Prusa)
- Piece gap: 0.3–0.5mm (start with 0.4mm)
- Thickness: 3–5mm for standard puzzles
- Layer height: 0.2mm for speed, 0.12mm for detail
- Material: PLA recommended for rigidity and color options
- Infill: 100% for thin pieces (<3mm), 50% for thicker
Resin Printers (SLA / DLP)
- Piece gap: 0.1–0.2mm (start with 0.15mm)
- Thickness: 2–3mm for smooth, detailed pieces
- Layer height: 0.05mm for best surface finish
- Material: Standard or tough resin for durability
- Post-processing: Wash and cure before assembly

Common questions about generating STL puzzle files
Upload your image or use a blank template, set your puzzle dimensions and piece count, then export as STL. The generator creates interlocking 3D puzzle pieces with configurable thickness and gap tolerances, ready for slicing in Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, or any other slicer software.
Our STL files work with any FDM printer (Ender 3, Bambu Lab, Prusa) and resin printer (SLA/DLP). We provide presets for FDM (0.4mm gap) and Resin (0.15mm gap) to ensure pieces fit together properly, or you can set custom tolerances for your specific machine.
We recommend 3mm for standard puzzles, which balances durability and print time. For larger puzzles or kids, try 5-8mm for sturdier pieces. For decorative or display puzzles, 2mm works well. You can adjust from 1mm to 10mm in the Export settings.
Use our FDM preset (0.4mm) for most filament printers or Resin preset (0.15mm) for SLA/DLP printers. If pieces are too tight or too loose, switch to Custom mode and fine-tune the gap. A test print of a small 4-piece puzzle is recommended to dial in your settings.
The STL export is geometry only — it creates the physical puzzle shape. To add images, print the puzzle pieces first, then apply your image using decal paper, UV printing, or by gluing a printed photo on top. For multi-color printers, you can paint the top surface in your slicer.
Rectangle and square shapes print most reliably with consistent piece sizes. Heart and circle shapes also work well but may have smaller edge pieces. We support all 5 shapes (rectangle, circle, heart, oval, square) for STL export.

PLA is the best choice for most puzzles — it's easy to print, rigid, and comes in many colors. PETG works well for puzzles that need more durability. Resin produces the smoothest pieces with finest detail. Avoid flexible filaments like TPU as pieces won't interlock properly.
