Puzzle Generator MCP Server for AI Workflows

The puzzle generator MCP server gives an MCP-compatible AI host access to eight puzzle-link tools. Your assistant supplies the words, clues, phrases, or layout settings; JigsawMake validates them and returns a link to the appropriate browser generator. Open that link to review the puzzle and save it using the tool’s existing download controls.

This server connects AI workflows to puzzle makers. It does not access accounting data, private designs, or user accounts.

Test an MCP Tool

Sign in to create an API key. Create and delete keys and view call history in your account.

Prefer ordinary HTTP requests? See the Puzzle Generator API.

Test an MCP Puzzle Tool Call

Run a sample tools/call request through the real MCP endpoint to inspect its returned URL and structured content. This console verifies a server call, not a connection to a particular AI host. For a complete integration, add the endpoint to your MCP client, discover the tool list there, and ask the assistant to create a puzzle using your own public content.

Sign in to create or manage API keys. Your key stays in memory in this console.

Use public content. These settings will appear in the returned URL.

POST https://jigsawmake.com/api/mcp

Run a sample to see the response and a working preview link. No request is made until you press the button.

What Your Assistant Can Do with This Server

Discover named, validated tools

The server exposes list_puzzle_tools plus one creation tool for each of the eight puzzle categories. Each creation tool advertises its argument schema and optional registered page choices. A host can discover the supported inputs rather than guessing URLs, while the server checks that the arguments match the selected puzzle type.

Turn generated content into a reviewable link

An assistant can draft an ocean vocabulary list or crossword clues, then supply that content to the matching tool. This server does not call another language model to generate text. The result is a browser link that a person can review and edit, keeping content quality checks visible before a worksheet is printed.

Connect without granting account access

The tools create links to public editors. They do not read private saved designs, make purchases, or log into an account. Sign in to create an API key and configure the host to send Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY. This key grants access to puzzle-link tools, not your private designs or billing. Delete it and review call history in your account. Your AI host still controls which tools it allows and when it asks for approval to call them.

How to Connect and Make Your First Puzzle

Add the HTTP endpoint

Sign in at /dashboard and create an API key. Configure Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY and use https://jigsawmake.com/api/mcp in a client that supports Streamable HTTP. The endpoint uses stateless requests; GET streams and DELETE sessions are not provided. Client configuration syntax differs, so use the URL and transport fields supported by your host.

Discover available tools

Ask the host to list the server’s tools. list_puzzle_tools describes the categories, their parameter schemas, and registered pages. The eight creation tools have names such as create_word_search_link and create_crossword_link, making the content-to-tool mapping explicit.

Provide content and settings

Ask for a specific activity, such as an ocean word search with a 12×12 grid. The assistant must supply a words array in the tool arguments; a topic alone is not a valid replacement. For crosswords, it supplies answer words and their clues.

Open the result and export

The response includes structured content, a text representation, and a resource link to the editor. Open the URL to check the supplied settings and the generated preview. Use the page’s download controls to save the worksheet or cut pattern in a supported format.

Word Search, Crossword, and Other MCP Puzzle Tools

There is one discovery tool and eight creation tools, rather than a different MCP tool for every themed page. Each category’s optional page argument lets the assistant choose one of its registered pages. The catalog below comes from the same registry used by the server, so it describes the existing categories instead of a separate marketing-only tool list.

Connection Examples, Results, and Boundaries

For an HTTP client, register the remote endpoint as a Streamable HTTP server. For a local stdio client, set JIGSAWMAKE_API_KEY and run scripts/puzzle-mcp.mjs with Node.js 22 or newer; this adapter forwards calls to the authenticated remote server so calls are recorded; the repository also provides npm run mcp:stdio for terminal use. Launch Node directly in desktop configuration so npm’s own logs do not enter the protocol stream. Do not add an npx package name: this server has not been published as an installable npm package.

A creation tool takes options and an optional page, then returns type, page, url, normalized options, resultType, and instructions. Its resource_link points to an HTML tool page. Your AI host may display that as a clickable link or as structured data; the exact presentation belongs to the client. A successful tools/call response does not prove the host has opened a browser or downloaded a file.

Browser-based MCP hosts must send an allowed Origin. Production permits the JigsawMake origins; additional trusted origins require server configuration. Desktop callers without an Origin are supported. The server also validates content size and limits requests. Keep the puzzle content public, because settings travel in the URL, and remember that randomized layouts may change when that URL is reopened.

Request GET /api/v1/tools with your API key, and read the OpenAPI schema for the complete parameter definitions. Keep production keys in your backend; the JavaScript sample is for a trusted environment.

Puzzle Tasks for MCP-Compatible Assistants

Teacher planning assistants

Have the assistant select vocabulary from a lesson and call the word-search tool. Ask it to check spelling and age suitability before the teacher opens the browser preview and prints the worksheet.

Crossword drafting workflows

Let an assistant draft answer-and-clue pairs, then call create_crossword_link. The returned page provides a visible review step; the assistant should not infer that every submitted answer has become a connected crossword entry.

Party activity planners

Ask for a bingo item list appropriate to an event, then create a card-generator link. Review sensitive or unsuitable suggestions before printing, and use the browser to check the desired number of cards.

STEM and craft helpers

Request a jigsaw shape and dimensions or a seeded maze configuration. The host passes supported values to a link tool; the human then chooses the appropriate export format in the browser editor.

Quote-based activities

Supply a public phrase to create_cryptogram_link and choose a supported difficulty. The assistant provides the source text, while the destination generator creates the cipher preview and exposes the worksheet and answer downloads.

Spelling practice agents

Choose five to twenty-five English words and call create_word_scramble_link. The tool validates length and uniqueness; the teacher or learner checks the scrambled worksheet in the browser before using it in an activity.

Puzzle MCP Setup and Tool-Calling Questions

Inspect the Puzzle Makers Your AI Will Open

Try the destination tools before adding an automated workflow. A preview helps you understand which settings your assistant needs to supply and which decisions remain with the person printing the activity. For direct application code, use the separate HTTP API reference rather than reproducing MCP envelopes in a backend that only needs a JSON link response.
